Helping SA - NPO 115-333 =E2=80=93 Winter Care

Thousands of children and elderly across South Africa face the biting =
cold of winter without even a single blanket to call their own. It's a=
 heartbreaking reality that we must change together.

For families struggling to afford even a loaf of bread, a warm blanket=
 seems like an unattainable luxury. The elderly, often living in draft=
y garages or shacks, suffer in silence. Many curl into balls, trying t=
o fend off the cold, with illnesses like arthritis worsening in the fr=
eezing temperatures. Consider the countless young ones sharing tattere=
d blankets with siblings, or relying on plastic bags for warmth. The f=
ight for warmth is a daily struggle, not just for them but for many ot=
hers. "Some nights, I just dream of warm food and a blanket all to mys=
elf," echoes in the minds of young children.

At Helping SA, we refuse to let this be the norm. We are on a mission =
to provide blankets, warm clothing, and nourishing meals to those in d=
ire need. Our efforts are focused on ensuring that these children, and=
 our forgotten elderly, can face winter with dignity and warmth.

We've seen a heartbreaking increase in the number of families who can'=
t afford even the most basic necessities. Just imagine, an 8-year-old =
child, who used to look forward to school meals - the only assured mea=
l of the day, now do not even have the transport to get to school as t=
hey are forced to move and stay far away from schools and town.

But it's not just children who are suffering. The elderly, often forgo=
tten, are also struggling to survive. They too face each day filled wi=
th uncertainty, loneliness, and hunger.

Our organization, Helping SA, is trying to make a difference in the li=
ves of these children and the elderly. We provide food parcels to fami=
lies and elderly. We believe that every child and every elderly person=
 deserve to live without the gnawing pain of hunger.

Throughout Covid period and lockdown and the hard 4 years that followe=
d, we had without a doubt many saviors that assisted us in helping man=
y, who helped not only with three meals a day for a large number of fa=
milies with children and the elderly but also in this time aided many =
families to get back on to their feet after lockdown as we were provid=
ing the most basic need to them and their children =E2=80=93 food, and=
 it's sad to know that in current situations it is worse than during c=
ovid, that currently in South Africa, one out of every four youngsters=
 go to bed hungry. This is more than simply a statistic; it reflects t=
he painful reality that many families experience every day.=20

We realize the concern about birth control; we have an outreach progra=
m specifically for this, and that they should avoid having children. T=
ragically, over the years, many children who were not born into povert=
y, whose parents were middle-class wage earners and could afford to ha=
ve them four, eight, or even twelve years ago, are now unemployed and =
unable to provide for their children.

But here's the stark truth: without immediate action, many will contin=
ue to suffer. The cold exacerbates illnesses, and the lack of nutritio=
n weakens already frail bodies. We cannot let them face another winter=
 alone. Your support allows us to provide essential blankets, warm clo=
thing, and nourishing meals. With your help, we can be their warmth, t=
heir strength, and their hope.

Without our assistance, these lives hang in the balance. The harsh win=
ter could mean more sickness, more suffering, and for some, it could b=
e a battle they cannot win.

The needy has nowhere to turn, most do receive the R350 grant but one =
person alone can=E2=80=99t live and eat with R350 for a month never mi=
nd if you have 1 or 2 children at school, many families are now forced=
 to move to new  camps or areas which is unsafe and far away from scho=
ols for their children or a way to get to town to find employment,  wi=
th current situations our South Africans are forced to move to these c=
amps which is very unsafe and children will fail out of schools due to=
 the lack of transport and the finances for transport, we are trying t=
o find solutions to these problems, as we do what we can with each sit=
uation of the different needs of the individual families.

With your support, we can turn the tide, imagine the impact=E2=80=94a =
child wrapped in a cozy blanket, their belly full with a warm meal. Yo=
ur support will not only change their life but will ripple through the=
ir family, bringing hope and comfort.

The children, families, and elderly that we aid are spread across Sout=
h Africa; there are so many people in need that we need to start this =
drive as soon as possible rather than waiting until the coldest days a=
rrive.

It works out to +/- R2200 per month for each family's food parcel, whi=
ch includes healthy balanced meals.

It average R 1000 - R1600 for a family of three for blankets and at le=
ast two jerseys and trousers each.
