We are frantically contacting all of our amazing and compassionate don=
ors today with a special request for help with our food parcels campai=
gn for the needy families with children and the elderly on our list. O=
ver the past few months, we have seen a very rapid and significant dec=
line in donations as a result of the challenging financial instability=
 that many people are experiencing, but we have also received a huge n=
umber of new requests for food parcels and assistance that we are unab=
le to add to our already long list.



As we are already nearing the end of October, we have yet to meet our =
regular monthly quota for food parcels due to the prolonged decline in=
 income; more than 40% of our elderly and dependent families are still=
 awaiting their October food parcels from us. Keeping in mind that the=
se individuals only have us to rely on. The kids required additional f=
ood for at-home meals during the school breaks. We also still need to =
find ways to provide families with extra food for the extended holiday=
 season, when the kids will be on vacation for nearly two months and w=
on't have access to food from the school feeding programs. The end of =
the year is quickly approaching.



All of our volunteers and members of Helping SA are going through a ve=
ry trying and stressful time. We go to bed at night knowing the faces =
of these children who are wondering where their food is and the faces =
of the elderly who believe that we have forgotten about them, and we a=
re unable to sleep or concentrate on our personal lives the following =
day because all we can think about is how many hungry tummies we have =
yet to reach.



Please, if you can, assist us in this dire situation at this time. No =
matter how small, every R1 is one step closer to a meal for our elderl=
y and children and their families. We cannot let them feel unworthy, a=
nd we cannot accomplish this alone. Every little bit of help from peop=
le like you is vital.



We provide food parcels, clothes, and bedding to the elderly. Most did=
 not have the choice to save up for their old age since they had to ta=
ke care of their children's needs before their own, and in these times=
, they are neglected by their children and relatives. The elderly that=
 do receive a grant can barely pay rent for a back room or garage as t=
his is already as high as R800-R1200 per month and it=E2=80=99s for th=
e greater part for broken down places with cement floors and sometimes=
 no windows and just horrific conditions.



The majority of the older people we help suffer from conditions or ail=
ments such as arthritis, hip replacements, back and neck disorders, as=
thma, COPD, and other chronic respiratory conditions. The elderly shou=
ld have comfortable clothing, healthy and nutritious meals, and, espec=
ially in light of the recent and frequent health crisis, sufficient vi=
tamins to enhance their immune systems.



We keep in contact and do general wellness checks on the elderly that =
we assist, we do not just give food and turn our backs, we focus a lot=
 of our time, love and care on their emotional support and safety as t=
his is a very important part of our work and something we strive on is=
 to be human and kind that is why we are doing this very important pro=
ject in the first place is because all of our board members and volunt=
eers are involved for the love of it and to work to make an impact tha=
t counts!
